A very exciting recent addition to the Infinity System is the MSR³³ WalPanel exterior insulated wall system (MSR=Multi Story Residential).  We are combining the Epicore MSR Composite Floor System with bare metal stud Infinity wall panels within the interior of the building and the MSR³³ WalPanel pre-insulated panels for the exterior walls.  The MSR³³ WalPanels are 5 1/2" thick; constructed with two rows of galvanized metal studs (one row of studs at the exterior face and another row of studs at the interior face, completely separated for a total thermal break) embedded in a rigid, fire-retardant "modified expanded polystyrene" (EPS) insulation.  Like our bare metal stud Infinity wall panels, the MSR³³ WalPanels are shop fabricated off-site, delivered to the jobsite when needed, and installed by our trained Infinity System Erectors with the rest of the system.

     One major advantage of the MSR³³ WalPanel exterior wall system is that it provides 4 steps in 1: 

The structural components
Insulation
Sheathing
Vapor barrier

Since the MSR³³ WalPanel is installed with the rest of the Infinity System on a floor-to-floor basis, you are essentially "dried in" as you go.  Virtually any exterior skin may be applied directly over the MSR³³ WalPanel without the need for sheathing backup.  Comparing the cost and time of traditionally field installing metal studs, insulation, and then sheathing, the MSR³³ WalPanel should provide both cost and time savings.

     The modified EPS has very low flame spread and smoke development ratings, and contains no CFC's HCFC's, or formaldehyde (ie: environmentally safe).  The EPS's closed cell structure contains stabilized entrained air which resists moisture gain; is highly resistant to mildew; resists fungus and decay; will not rot; and provides no food value for termites, rodents or insects.

     Electrical wiring is easily accomodated with the MSR³³ WalPanel System. Infinity provides one or more hot knives on every project which allows you to easily "cut-in" custom wiring runs or junction boxes using the hot knife.

     One of the most extraordinary advantages of using our MSR³³ WalPanels on the exterior wall is the thermal energy performance.  Due to the unique configuration of the double row of the metal studs, you have a thermal break across the panel from exterior to interior (versus traditional "stick built" walls where each stud is a thermal conductor from one wall surface to the other).  The R-values will remain consistent and stable due to the rigidity and closed cellular structure of the EPS insulation (versus traditional batts that may be improperly installed; sag or settle over the years; absorb and retain moisture/mildew, etc.).  The R-value of the MSR³³ WalPanel remains the same in year 20 as on day one!  Not only will you reduce time and costs during the construction phase, but the owner could enjoy lower energy costs every year for the life of the building! With energy costs skyrocketing, this will become an extremely critical factor on every building in the future.
